Digital First Media tapped Saxotech for its Saxotech Online and Saxotech Mediaware apps, in a bid to drive audience growth and revenue at MediaNews Group.

MNG will deploy the software — which will be hosted in the Saxotech Cloud — to some 850 users across 30 California papers, one Texas paper and five New Mexico properties, with additional sites throughout eight states to be brought onto the system in the near future, Saxotech said.

“This is a natural next step for us to take from implementation and integration to training and usability,” Bob Mason, DFM’s chief technology officer said in a statement. “We will no longer have disparate systems to support and all of our users can operate from a common platform as they plan and publish.”

The software will enable content sharing across multiple digital and print channels, allowing MNG to increase coverage and provide more original, local content, thereby creating new products and driving audience growth, Saxotech said.

DFM selected Saxotech in a similar deployment for its Journal Register Co. unit in January 2011.
