BANG upgrades telecom
network
Bay Area News Group in
northern California upgraded its voice and data services using equipment from
Time Warner Telecom Inc.
The provider installed a
high-speed Ethernet network to link BANG’s 15 facilities, including those
housing the Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune and others.
“Time Warner Telecom’s metro
Ethernet and dedicated transport services provide us with the affordable,
high-performance, technical infrastructure we need to consolidate operations and
reduce operational costs,” said Jack Schneider, BANG’s director of information
technology. “Each of our 15 papers can access files from one central location
and can share material. This eliminates the costs associated with having to
operate redundant systems and duplicate work.”
The upgrade comes on the heels
of BANG’s $7 million investment in editorial front-end software from MediaSpan
(see Newspapers & Technology, December 2007).
