Viscion Media Group became the first publisher in Singapore to adopt WoodWing Software’s publishing apps, tapping the vendor’s SmartConnection Enterprise, WoodWing said. Viscion produces four magazines and one newspaper.

Meantime, the Gunnison Country (Colo.) Times upgraded to Smart Connection Enterprise version, 5.0 after installing the previous person last year.

The (New York) Daily News selected WebTrends Inc. Analytics app to collect information about its online readers. The Analytics program is part of WebTrends’ Market Lab 2 suite, which is designed to help users better understand how visitors interact with Web sites, the company said.

Glacier Ventures, Canadian publisher of newspapers and trade publications, said is rolling out Saxotech’s Web publishing software, Saxotech Online.

MediaNews Group selected Topix to handle forums and article commenting for all of its newspapers. MediaNews Group launched forums on several newspaper sites in New England and will launch an additional 30 to 40 sites, Topix said.

Seventeen more newspapers partnered with Yahoo and will use features offered to the nearly one-year-old Newspaper Consortium. The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch and 16 regional newspapers owned by The New York Times Co. joined the group. The deal did not include The Times itself.

The Wall Street Journal Online said it is making its content available to Digg users and will also allow users to send WSJ.com articles to Digg.

 

MediaNews Group, Hearst and Lee Enterprises said they’ve purchased a majority stake in online classified provider Kaango for approximately $20 million. Kaango founders Michael Kranitz and Marc Vigod will retain a 20 percent stake and will stay with the firm.

 

American Community Newspapers Inc. announced the launch of its new Columbus, Ohio, newspaper Web site portal, www.ColumbusLocalNews.com. The new site covers 22 community weekly newspapers serving Columbus and Central Ohio communities.

 

The Philadelphia Inquirer signed an agreement with Pressmart Media Ltd. to supply the newspaper with an electronic edition that will be available Jan. 7, 2008. Pressmart will co-develop, host and electronically deliver the print-replica eEdition of The Inquirer on its New Media Delivery platform.

The Wall Street Journal Online said it reached the 1 million mark for paid subscriptions. WSJ.com, meantime, said it reached 10 million unique visitors in October — up 104 percent from one year ago — while the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, which includes MarketWatch.com, Barron’s Online and AllThingsD.com, hit 20 million unique visitors and 454 million page views, up 25 percent and 37 percent versus a year ago, respectively.

The East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Ariz., launched an e-edition, using Olive Software’s ActivePaper app. The paper is offering the e-edition free to 190 Arizona schools participating in the Newspapers In Education program.

Norway’s NHST Media Group selected Digital Technology International’s NewsSpeed editorial software for Dagens Naeingsliv’s new weekly magazine D2. The agreement also includes the option to add NewsSpeed and AdSpeed to Dagens Naeringsliv and the other NHST business publications, including TradeWind, UpStream, Fiskaren, and Dagens IT.

The New York Post selected ROO Group to launch online video and video advertising on its Web site. ROO will allow the Post to create and showcase its own content, providing another channel for Post personalities to reach new audiences or strengthen ties with existing ones, the company said.

The Washington Post rolled out AdScripter software from Travidia Inc. to underpin the paper’s mortgage finder directory. The directory is a special ad database that lets users find and compare mortgage rates in the Washington, D.C., area.
