Canadian newspaper publisher Ladysmith Press added six Community SSC printing
units to its existing Community pressline. Ladysmith prints 12 weekly and six
daily newspapers with a weekly press run of more than 485,000 copies.

Transcontinental Media Inc.
said it purchased a Nova Scotian newspaper, The Springhill-Parrsboro Record. The
acquisition brings to 170 the number of Canadian community newspapers the

The Detroit Media Partnership
LP sold the downtown production plant formerly used to produce the Detroit Free
Press. The group sold the 300,000-square-foot building and 22 acres surrounding
it to the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy for an undisclosed amount believed to
be less than $20 million, according to Crain’s Detroit Business. DMP produces
both the Free Press and Detroit News in an upgraded production site in suburban
Sterling Heights.
Chilean publisher La Segunda
began printing The New York Times International Weekly. The publication will
appear each Thursday.
Tesa Tape Inc. was presented
with a 2007 Vendor of the Year award by AIM Supply. Tesa said it’s the second
time in three years it received acknowledgment for its efforts by AIM, a
distributor of maintenance, repair and overhaul products.

Trinity Mirror tapped vR
Systems AG to install a stripping and preparation line at the publisher’s
Watford, England, production site.
The project will link Trinity
Mirror’s ASRS outfeed to an existing AGV system. vR, formerly known as Metso/Von
Roll, said the system will be installed in the spring.
The line will also include a
semi-automatic stripping station connected to a shredding unit and to an EcoPrep
robot fully automated prep station. This will permit Trinity Mirror to assign
only one operator to manage stripping, role prep and waste paper removal.
NEW MEDIA
Gannett Co. Inc. selected
thePlatform to install its back-end management software to oversee the
publishing of online videos to its various Web sites. As part of the agreement,
thePlatform will serve as the central distribution hub to syndicate video
content among Gannett sites.
