Indy Star picks MMMS

The Indianapolis Star is beefing up its postpress capabilities with equipment from Muller Martini Mailroom Systems Inc.

The paper is adding a 32-head SLS-3000 inserter, three CombiStacks and 16 AF300 hopper loaders, according to MMMS. The vendor is also adding an inkjet addressing system, selective inserting with SelectLine and software that will be used to oversee a bundle distribution system.

The equipment will be installed early next year at the paper’s Pulliam Production Center, said Bill Bolger, The Star’s vice president of production.

“The Indianapolis Star is looking forward to working with Muller Martini on a capacity and productivity improvement project for our production facility,” he said

Meantime, Abu Dhabi newspaper publisher United Printing and Publishing tapped MMMS parent Muller Martini to provide it with a complete mailroom system.

The order includes five NewsGrip-A lines, two SLS-3000 inserters, five PrintStack compensating stackers, MPC control software and a labeling system. UPP is also purchasing a press delivery system with a Floorveyor conveyor.
