TorStar rolling out CCI apps

The Toronto Star said it will implement CCI Europe’s NewsGate in a bid to provide cross-media publishing and collaborative newsrooms for its daily and weekly publications. The implementation will serve up to 600 users at The Star, The Hamilton Spectator, Guelph Mercury, Waterloo Region Record and 16 Metroland weekly newspapers from Metroland’s West division.

NewsGate will replace the publisher’s current NewsDesk app, and will be installed in Toronto with disaster recovery in Hamilton.

“NewsGate’s collaborative work environment and multimedia publishing capabilities will ensure that we continue to deliver innovative news products to our customers,” said Jagoda Pike, Star publisher and president of Star Media Group.

CCI will assist in the initial install of the app and Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd. and Metroland will implement the rollout, currently planned for 2009.

The deal marks CCI’s first Canadian implementation of NewsGate.
