Transcontinental Inc. last month rolled out FFEI Ltd.’s RealVue 3D Server Pro
proofing and tearsheet software to power the printer’s Digital Workshop suite of
workflow tools.
The server-based installation
will support 14 to 16 of Transcontinental’s sites and will be available to more
than 130 newspapers. In addition to its own newspaper titles, Transcontinental
prints The (Toronto) Globe and Mail, La Presse in Montreal, and is in the midst
of constructing a new Fremont, Calif., plant to oversee printing and postpress
operations for the San Francisco Chronicle.
The technology, dubbed by
Transcontinental as VirtualVue, will enable printing customers to obtain 3-D
color proofs of their editorial and advertising content, according to Nicky
Milner, Transcontinental’s vice president of premedia.
