Color Management Group named Marc Levine director of business development.

 

Pittman Co. said President Joe Demharter will retire March 31, 2009, and be replaced by Peter J. Moore, who currently serves as the firm’s executive vice president of sales.

 

Screen (USA) appointed Enrique Flores as regional sales manager for Latin America.

 

Shuttleworth named Bret Ranc as chief operating officer.

 

Southern Lithoplate Inc. named Steve Mumford Canadian regional manager.

Sun Chemical named Brian Leen president, North American Inks, a newly created position, overseeing all of Sun’s North American ink businesses including US Ink.

 

POSTPRESS

Muller Martini Mailroom Systems Inc. named Dan Cropley to head its newly formed aftermarket sales and services efforts. Cropley formerly served as MMMS’ head of inserting.

 

Wally Weber joined Quipp as its northeast sales manager.

 

NEW MEDIA

Classified Concepts named Rachel Samson as one of its new sales managers and Jeremy Bradfield eastern U.S. territory sales manager.

 

INDUSTRY

Rob Curley, vice president of product development for Washingtonpost Newsweek Interactive, said he’s leaving the paper to take over multimedia and Web development for the Las Vegas Sun and Greenspun Media Group.

 

The Daily Press of Newport News, Va., appointed Robert C. Weber as its vice president of advertising. Weber was previously publisher of Winding Road, a national online automotive magazine and Web site.

The Times Union in Albany, N.Y., named Dan Couto director of operations and facilities planning. He formerly served as vice president of production at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

 

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch named Mary Zweifel as director of prepress and creative ad services. She previously served as prepress manager at The (Nashville) Tennessean.

 

Paul Briand retired from his position as director of operations at Seacoast Media Group in Portsmouth, N.H., to become an industry consultant, specializing in newspaper operations.

E.W. Scripps Co. named Jim York director of information technology for its newspaper division. York most recently was publisher of The Daily Journal in Park Hills, Mo.

 

The New York Times named Nick D’Andrea executive director of production, succeeding Tom Lombardo, the paper’s former vice president of production, who retired.

 

Tribune Co. said Scott Smith will retire from his post as publisher of the Chicago Tribune and president of Tribune Publishing. He’s held the posts since 2005.

 

OBITUARIES

Donald L. Heistand, a former vice president at Fincor Electronics and retired employee of JLS Associates, passed away May 29. He was 72.

 

John Hall, formerly chief operating officer of TKS (USA), passed away last month. Mr. Hall was a pressroom superintendent at The (Baltimore) Sun when he was asked to join Tesco, which distributed TKS presses. He then continued to work for Tesco, becoming president of the firm’s PII rigging unit before being named president when Jim Price retired.

As COO of TKS, Mr. Hall oversaw the move of the company from Chicago to suburban Dallas, where it operates today. He was also instrumental in introducing digital ink pumps in the U.S. market.
