What was your first job in the newspaper business?

Technology consultant for Dagens Nyheter, in Stockholm, Sweden, Scandinavia’s largest daily.

What do you like most about your job?

Diversity of assignments. One day I’m negotiating a labor contract. The next day I’m planning the construction of a world-class printing facility.

What do you like least?

The demands of the job leave little time for family.

What was Dow Jones’ most recent purchase/installation?

We recently purchased Krause violet imagers and Nela benders for the New York Post’s Bronx plant. Krause was selected for a few reasons: speed, expense of consumable (plate), reliability and pricing.

What is the biggest challenge Dow Jones is facing in production?

Our biggest production challenge really comes in two flavors: Press speed and color availability. There are a variety of options we are exploring, ranging from enhancing existing equipment to purchasing new equipment and/or partnering.

What trend are you keeping your eye on?

Digital printing. Once digital press speeds reach the desired threshold and cost-per-copy falls within range, the entire industry is set for a change.
