INCQC, NAA color club papers unveiled for 2008-2010
Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press only U.S. paper to get INCQC recognition.

The Newspaper Association of America last month announced the winners of its North American Color Quality Award, an honor presented to the top newspapers that participated in the International Newspaper Color Quality Club.

“The INCQC and NAA recognize the effort and precise attention to detail that goes into producing a high-quality daily newspaper,” said Michael Brady, NAA’s director of production operations. “The caliber of this year’s recipients is remarkable, and is a testament to the growth of color advertising and the newspapers’ success in achieving exceptional color reproduction on newsprint.”

NAA divided the winners into two categories, as follows:

Over 100,000 circulation

•The Globe and Mail, National                  Edition, Boucherville, Canada

•The Globe and Mail, National                  Edition, Vancouver, Canada

•The Globe and Mail, Metro Edition, Toronto

•La Presse, Montreal

•The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press

•The Kansas City (Mo.) Star

• The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Less than 100,000 circulation

•The Ann Arbor (Mich.) News.

•Chattanooga (Tenn.) Times Free Press

•The Patriot News, Harrisburg, Pa.

•Journal Star, Peoria, Ill.

•News Tribune, Jefferson City, Mo.

The NAA’s awards came as the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association, Ifra and NAA named the 50 international newspapers given membership to the 2008-2010 INCQC. Winners were chosen from among 198 papers in 39 countries.

The only U.S. paper to receive recognition during this year’s competition was the Grand Rapids Press. The New York Times, the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights, Ill., the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle, the Boston Globe, the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader, the Times Herald in Norristown, Pa.; and the Journal Star in Peoria were among U.S. papers that obtained membership in the 2006-2008 INCQC but either didn’t make the cut or didn’t participate in the 2008-2010 competition.
