Der Standard selects NewsWay as Q3 sales percolate

N&T Staff Report

Der Standard of Vienna, Austria, selected NewsWay workflow software from ProImage to manage its production. The daily broadsheet, established 19 years ago, will use NewsWay to replace an older workflow app.

“We needed a solution that will be robust, integrate with our existing systems, and provide a growth path and clear strategy for the future,” said Georg Lasser, IT and production manager for Der Standard. “NewsWay will allow us, with complete confidence, to automate the workflow of our pages all the way from our front-end systems through to our printers.”

Der Standard will implement the newest version of the software, NewsWay 5.1, which ProImage debuted at last month’s IfraExpo. The installation will be handled by ProPublish AB, which will also be responsible for systems integration.

Meantime, ProImage said third quarter sales of its NewsWay workflow app remained strong. Among sales:

•The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., will use NewsWay to generate custom edition plans, workflow management, imposition, load balancing of its computer-to-plate machines and manage transmission of pages to remote print sites in Piscataway and Montville, N.J. The paper will also rely on the software to calculate ink values for the press control systems and — via a link to Nela plate vendors — keep track of plates for each edition.

•The News-Leader in Springfield, Mo., is using the app to manage production tracking, soft proofing, page and plate approvals. NewsWay will also provide the paper with automated event notification, furniture and text burning on to plates, as well as deadline and priority scheduling capabilities. The newspaper will mesh the software with an ALS app to create edition plans, ProImage said.

•The Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind., is upgrading its NewsWay implementation with the addition of a CIP3 Online Ink module.
