Spokane, Wash.

33 years in the industry

What was your first job in
the newspaper business?
An account executive for
classified advertising.
What do you like most
about your job?
Working side-by-side with a
very talented group of production employees.
What do you like least?
Those individuals who give
their personal agenda a higher priority than the overall team’s agenda.
What was The
Spokesman-Review’s most recent purchase or installation?
We installed computer-to-plate
equipment in August. We purchased two lines of the Krause violet machine and
Blue Fin processors. The equipment is very sturdy and dependable, supported in
the U.S. by Fuji. We like the new Fuji plate and the support team in the Pacific
Northwest.
We are also upgrading our
reelroom RTPs this fall (with equipment) from Brock Solutions on our 12 1981
Goss Metro units.
What is the biggest
challenge The Spokesman-Review is facing in production?
Attempting to maintain an
environment of continuous improvement in difficult financial times. We try to
focus on all the basic elements of performing our employee and machine tasks
properly. Thorough and ongoing training, preventive maintenance procedures and
tracking, along with good communication from supervision/management.
What trend are you keeping
your eye on?
Smaller zoning requirements in
packaging along with our advertisers’ requests to provide us their inserts later
and later. We’re also looking at facilitating any transfer of content from the
printed product to the online product.
