Eastman Kodak Co. named Philip J. Faraci president and chief operating officer. He’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group and consumer digital imaging group businesses. Meantime, Kodak named Patrick DeRose United States and Canadian director of sales, newspaper and packaging systems and David Martin USC business development manager for its Microzone Publishing Solutions unit. Finally, Kodak named David Sterner USC solutions sales manager for the newspaper segment.

 

Managing Editor Inc. named Carter Calle director of technical services.

 

Neasi-Weber International announced that founding partners Dennis J. Neasi and James S. Weber will be stepping down from their active day-to-day involvement in the company and turning full responsibility for all operations over to Michael Brier, who has been promoted to president. Brier, an 18-year veteran of the company, most recently served as the firm’s chief operating officer.

 

Presteligence named Paul Chandonnet vice president of sales in North America.

TKS (USA) named Mike Shafer director of sales and marketing.

 

Sun Chemical named Michael J. Dodd president of its US Ink unit. Dodd previously served as the ink supplier’s vice president of national accounts.

Dodd, who has more than 30 years of industry and management experience, currently sits on the board of the International Newspaper Group and is vice chairman of the Web Offset Association Supply Advisory Board.

 

Manugraph DGM Inc. signed Greg Harabin as an exclusive sales agent, responsible for marketing the firm’s printing equipment in the Southwest United States.

AdMission Corp. named Leif R. Welch chief revenue officer.

 

INDUSTRY

Ed Baer, chief information officer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is retiring, the paper said.

 

E.W. Scripps Co.’s Media Procurement Services unit named Owen Cardell as an exclusive consultant. Cardell, formerly vice president of national accounts at Bowater Inc., will provide advisory services to MPS, which provides newsprint management and buying services to newspapers nationwide.

 

The Ithaca (N.Y.) Journal named Monte I. Trammer president and publisher. Trammer holds the same job at the nearby Star-Gazette in Elmira, N.Y. The Journal also named Bruce Estes general manager. Estes will continue to serve as The Journal’s editor.

 

The Sun Times Media Group Inc. promoted Kevin King to vice president of operations and Tony Triner to vice president of production. King succeeds Rick Surkamer, who last month was promoted to chief operating officer of STMG.

 

Journal Register Co. said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Jelenic, who has been on a medical leave of absence since June, will resign, effective Nov. 1. The company named James Hall to succeed him.

 

Blake Dickie was named director of operations at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Dickie, who previously served as production director at the paper, joined the Post-Dispatch in 2002.

 

David Mercier was named director of sales and marketing at newspaper printer Signature Offset. He formerly served as advertising director at Swift Communications in Summit County, Colo. Signature also named Kim Grace an outside sales consultant.

 

The International Newspaper Group named Norm Harbin, vice president of business and technical development, Flint Group; and Joe McKinnon, vice president of operations at the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News, as members of its board of directors.

 

A Minnesota state judge ordered (Minneapolis) Star Tribune publisher Par Ridder to leave his job for one year following charges by his former newspaper that he violated a non-compete agreement.

Ridder, formerly publisher of cross-town rival the St. Paul Pioneer Press, took over the top spot at the Star Tribune in March.

Judge David C. Higgs said Ridder’s move to the Star Tribune caused his former paper “irreparable harm” and that he would have to leave the Minneapolis newspaper immediately.

Chris Harte, chairman of the Star Tribune, said he would now become publisher.

 

OBITUARIES

Curtis Cloud, a classified and editorial systems instructor for Digital Technology International, passed away last month.

Mr. Cloud worked at DTI for almost seven years, serving the vendor’s customers.
