Columbus Dispatch upgrades plate management transport

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch wrapped up the installation of a 32-position plate stacking system that links the paper’s plateroom and pressroom.

Acutech LLC oversaw the project, which routes the approximately 1,400 plates The Dispatch consumes each night.

Plates are routed to three high-speed Acutech optical punch benders, where they are sorted by job, press unit and position. Acutech also helped design a unique naming convention to properly identify the plates, the firm said.

In addition to the stacking system, Acutech  supplied locks The Dispatch used in conjunction with a web-width reduction to 48 inches.
