Lee Enterprises, others choose Glunz & Jensen K&F

Lee Enterprises in July tapped Glunz & Jensen K&F Inc. for punch bending equipment for seven of the publisher’s newspapers.

Lee will upgrade prepress operations at the Missoulian in Missoula, Mont., the Billings (Mont.) Gazette, the Rapid City (S.D.) Journal, the Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune, the Times-News in Twin Falls, Idaho, the Post-Star in Glens Falls, N.Y., and the Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale, Ill.

The new lines will feature the Precision Edge punch bender along with straight conveyors, multi-directional UTM conveyors and plate stackers, Glunz & Jensen K&F said. Each of the seven plate production lines is custom configured to maximize plate production efficiency. Installations are scheduled for late summer.

Meantime, Lee affiliate Capitol Newspapers of Madison, Wis., purchased a Precision Edge bender, stacker and UTM along with 164 of the new Glunz & Jensen K&F Wide-Gap No-Tool stainless steel press registration lockups to complete the web-width reduction of its Goss Metro Press from 48 inches to 46 inches. Glunz & Jensen K&F will also retrofit Capitol’s existing K&F punch bend equipment to accept the new web size.

The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot purchased 320 slots of the new Glunz & Jensen K&F Wide-Gap No-Tool stainless steel press registration locks and a ProVision Alliance punch bender along with retrofit kits for its existing Glunz & Jensen K&F punch bender. The Pilot plans to reduce its Goss Metro press to 48 inches.

Several other publishers recently tapped Glunz & Jensen K&F for equipment including, the (Santa Fe) New Mexican, the Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star, the Regina Leader-Post, Regina Saskatchewan, Canada, the Marin Independent Journal in Novato, Calif., the Sun News in Myrtle Beach, Fla., Sakaal Papers Ltd. of Maharashtra, India (through Agfa Graphics NV of India), the Cape Argus of Cape Town, South Africa (through Glunz & Jensen K&F dealer Antalis Pty. Ltd.  of South Africa), and Sin Chew Jit Po KL of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (through Glunz & Jensen K&F dealer Accel Graphic Systems of Malaysia).
