JRC transferring Conn. production

Journal Register Co. closed its New Britain, Conn., printing and mailroom facility and transferred production to a plant in New Haven, Conn.

The move, which was effective July 9, is expected to save the publisher $500,000 in salaries, wages, newsprint and related facilities expenses, JRC said.

The New Haven facility will now print The Herald in New Britain, Middletown (Conn.) Press and Sunday Herald Press in addition to The New Haven Register.

Decommission press

JRC said it will either relocate or decommission the press and equipment at the New Britain site.

“This move is an ongoing part of Journal Register Co.’s cluster strategy and another example of the options available to Journal Register to support cash flow during this period of transformation from traditional to new media,” said James W. Hall, JRC’s acting executive officer, in a statement.
