Advanced Publishing Technology released PinPoint, the latest addition to its online software suite. PinPoint is a tool newspaper salespeople can use to attract new advertisers and small businesses, APT said.

PinPoint lets users identify all subscribers and advertisers by account number, name, address, phone number and e-mail, and all of that information is displayed using different color-coded map points.

APT said the product is part of a new lineup of products the vendor will roll out this year. The app is powered by APT’s technology and uses Google interactive maps to let users zoom down to the street level to identify the exact location of potential customers.

Tribune Co. said it expects to settle its appeal of a 2005 Tax Court decision that disallowed a tax-free reorganization of Matthew Bender, a former legal publishing unit of Times Mirror Co.

Under the proposed settlement, Tribune said it will receive a refund of $350 million in federal and state taxes and interest resulting from a $1 billion payment it was ordered to make after it acquired Times Mirror — and its pre-existing tax dispute — in 2000. Tribune said it will provide further information about the settlement this fall.
