Chicago Sun-Times taps Agfa
Use of software will enable publisher to boost productivity at flagship daily and provide more control in publication of more than 100 other papers in the region.

The Chicago Sun-Times selected Agfa’s Arkitex to manage workflow at three of its production sites, including the main Ashland Avenue facility that produces the Sun-Times, Agfa said. Implementation is scheduled for late spring.

“The Chicago Sun-Times is one of the 10 largest daily newspapers in the United States and its parent company prints many more publications at company-owned facilities,” said Sheila Nysko, Agfa’s business development manager for newspapers, North America.

The Sun-Times purchased Arkitex to improve workflow productivity at its flagship daily, as well as more than 100 community papers throughout the region.

Arkitex Director acts as a control center for the entire workflow, automating tasks and allowing users to monitor production through to the press. Arkitex Producer organizes, prioritizes and routes pages to multiple RIPS, imagesetters and proofers, enabling them to run at full speed to increase productivity and shorten turnaround time, Agfa said. Arkitex Grafix RIP, meantime, is an expandable PostScript language interpreter designed to meet the demands of deadline color production.
