The News-Star in Monroe, La.,
installed ProImage’s browser-based NewsWay workflow app to automate its
computer-to-plate workflow and automate production, making it’s the 35th Gannett
newspaper to do so, according to Gannett.
“The cost-effective system is
very flexible and has increased our production efficiency,” said Doug Nobles,
production director. “Since soft proofing uses RIPped data, we have had fewer
mistakes, and therefore less plate waste.”
The News-Star’s NewsWay app
accepts files from Advanced Publishing Technology editorial and classified apps,
and from external software. NewsWay creates an edition plan, automates page
pairing and imposition and load balances two Harlequin RIPs to manage output to
the daily’s two Kodak Trendsetter News devices and several hard copy proofers.
NewsWay also burns appropriate
text and furniture onto the plates.
