Sun Media Corp. of Canada
purchased Jazbox content management software from MediaSpan Media Software for
its chain of tabloid and community newspapers, MediaSpan said.
Jazbox will give Sun a
distributed server environment that will allow immediate searches for stories,
photos, graphics, audio and video files across the group’s newspapers, Sun TV
and Canoe.ca, Sun’s news, sports and entertainment Web site.
The papers included in the
publisher’s initial launch of the app include The Toronto Sun, The Calgary Sun,
The Edmonton Sun, The Ottawa Sun and The Winnipeg Sun. Each newspaper will have
between 20 and 50 designer and editor workstations with Adobe InCopy and
InDesign; 20 to 70 reporter workstations and 10 to 20 Jazbox Contributor
clients. Sun also plans to use OnePlan, Jazbox’s budgeting and planning tool, as
a central assignment desk.
Tight schedule
Key to the project was
MediaSpan’s ability to meet Sun’s tight installation schedule, according to
Monika Piotrowski, Sun Media’s corporate director of information technology.
“We needed to deploy this
product within a very aggressive schedule,” she said. “MediaSpan truly was the
only company with the ability to respond to our national communication and
production needs, and deliver on the schedule we demand.”
