X-Rite acquires Gretag, releases retooled color proofing app

X-Rite completed its acquisition of Amazys Holding AG, the parent company of Gretag Macbeth, for a total purchase price of approximately $280 million. Amazys develops color measurement and communication products under the Gretag Macbeth name.

“Our new company combines top-notch talent, technology and products in the color industry,” said X-Rite Chief Executive Officer Michael C. Ferrara. “We expect our expertise, talent and technology to help us expand the global color market through innovation.”

A combination of X-Rite and GretagMacbeth executives will lead the organization, with Ferrara as chief executive officer, Thomas J. Vacchiano Jr. as president and chief operating officer, Mary E. Chowning as chief financial officer and Dr. Francis Lamy as chief technology officer. The X-Rite board of directors is now comprised of nine members, including six current directors of X-Rite and three former directors of Amazys Holding AG.

The headquarters for the combined company is in Grandville, Mich., with European headquarters in Regensdorf, Switzerland, and Asia Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. X-Rite has also adopted a new logo for the company.

Meantime, X-Rite introduced MonacoQColor 1.5, the latest version of its software for verifying and analyzing color proofs in local and remote proofing environments. X-Rite said the latest version features significant performance improvements including a custom label designer that allows users to customize the verification label content for extended reporting capability; and a redesigned server and database structure to improve stability and data transmission speed.
