Acutech LLC named Bob Rotter as a technical sales representative. Rotter formerly served as manager of product development/technical at Nela.

PRESS

Automated Systems Technology Inc. named Ron Fransen operations manager. Fransen will be based at ASTI’s Eagle River, Wis., office and be responsible for sales and engineering services to the newspaper industry.

 

Goss International Corp. named Doug Gibson vice president of sales for double-with presses and packaging systems. Andy Leszczynski remains director of double-width sales while Don Pallotto will continue to oversee Goss’ single-width and insert press sales, reporting to Dick Schultz, senior vice president of global sales.

 

Stephen E. Parker III was named director, business development at press vendor Stevens Technology LLC in Fort Worth, Texas. Parker formerly served as director of sales at Didde Press Systems.

POSTPRESS

Kansa Technology LLC said Ron Swint, one of the three original founders of the postpress vendor, retired. Jesse Miser, marketing manager, will take over Swint’s marketing responsibilities, the firm said.

 

Erwin van Rossem joined the sales team of Q.I. Press Controls. He will manage and develop the web press markets in The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

 

 

INDUSTRY

William J. Higginson was named senior vice president, production at the Journal Register Co. Higginson formerly served as the Journal Register’s vice president of production.

 

The Chicago Sun-Times News Group said Barry Mechanic, vice president of operations, left the company. He will be succeeded on an interim basis by Scott Springer.

 

Dow Jones Online named Brian Quinn to the position of vice president of advertising sales and marketing. Quinn will oversee all sales efforts for Dow Jones Online, which includes WSJ.com, MarketWatch.com and Barron’s Online.

Mark Hale was promoted to senior vice president of technology operations at E.W. Scripps Co.

 

Stephen D. Carver was appointed president of The Hartford (Conn.) Courant. Carver, currently vice president and general manager of the paper, will succeed current president Jack Davis, who also serves as publisher and chief executive officer, at the end of the year.

 

Journal Sentinel Inc. in Milwaukee named Ken McNamee as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He previously served as vice president, compliance, at Scripps Networks, and also served as CFO at the Denver Newspaper Agency.

 

Former Knight Ridder vice president of operations Paula Ellis was named vice president, national and new initiatives at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami.

 

Darryl L. Flowers joined The Robesonian of Lumberton, N.C., as production director.

 

 

NEW MEDIA

Tribune Interactive named Kara Walsh general manager of Metromix. Walsh will oversee strategy, development, operations and interactive sales for the Metromix network of entertainment and information Web sites in Chicago, Baltimore and Orlando, Fla.

 

OBITUARIES

Wayne Marcouiller, who was the former president of Web Press Corp., passed away after a long illness, the company said.

Mr. Marcouiller was president of the press vendor from 1974 to 1996.
