Kodak said it wrapped up sales
of its computer-to-plate equipment at a number of North American newspapers,
including Newspaper Agency Corp. in Salt Lake City, which publishes The Salt
Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News.
NAC purchased its third
Trendsetter News 150 CTP unit for production of The Tribune, with Vice President
of Operations Bob Burns citing the thermal device’s throughput, speed and
quality improvement.
The Press Enterprise Inc.
purchased a Trendsetter News 100 and ThermalNews digital plates for production
of its Bloomburg, Pa., flagship daily The Press Enterprise and associated weekly
publications.
“We needed an economical
platesetting solution and the Kodak (unit) can image a wide array of plates,
which gives us flexibility to move with the market in the future,” according to
Bill Bason, production manager at The Press Enterprise.
Freedom Communications Inc.
chose Kodak for three of its California dailies. The Appeal Democrat in
Marysville and the Porterville Record each tapped Kodak for two Trendsetter News
50 units, while The Orange County Register opted for four Trendsetter News 200
units. Each of the dailies will image ThermalNews plates and The Appeal Democrat
will employ Kodak’s Staccato screening app, according to Prepress Manager
Courtney Lopez.
Gannett’s Utica (N.Y.)
Observer-Dispatch purchased two Trendsetter News 70 units, while Tribune
Publishing’s Lewiston (Idaho) Morning Tribune just added its second 70 model.
Liberty Review Atlas in
Galesburg, Ill., purchased two Trendsetter News 50 units, ThermalNews plates and
Kodak’s Prinergy Evo workflow and Preps imposition apps.
In Canada, meantime, Sing Tao
purchased a Trendsetter News model 70 and model 50 for its newspapers in Toronto
and two of the 70 models for its Vancouver papers. The Black Press-Red Deer
(Alberta) Advocate purchased a single Trendsetter News 70 with Kodak’s thermal
digital plates.
