Kodak touts strong sales in North America

Kodak said it wrapped up sales of its computer-to-plate equipment at a number of North American newspapers, including Newspaper Agency Corp. in Salt Lake City, which publishes The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News.

NAC purchased its third Trendsetter News 150 CTP unit for production of The Tribune, with Vice President of Operations Bob Burns citing the thermal device’s throughput, speed and quality improvement.

The Press Enterprise Inc. purchased a Trendsetter News 100 and ThermalNews digital plates for production of its Bloomburg, Pa., flagship daily The Press Enterprise and associated weekly publications.

“We needed an economical platesetting solution and the Kodak (unit) can image a wide array of plates, which gives us flexibility to move with the market in the future,” according to Bill Bason, production manager at The Press Enterprise.

Freedom Communications Inc. chose Kodak for three of its California dailies. The Appeal Democrat in Marysville and the Porterville Record each tapped Kodak for two Trendsetter News 50 units, while The Orange County Register opted for four Trendsetter News 200 units. Each of the dailies will image ThermalNews plates and The Appeal Democrat will employ Kodak’s Staccato screening app, according to Prepress Manager Courtney Lopez.

Gannett’s Utica (N.Y.) Observer-Dispatch purchased two Trendsetter News 70 units, while Tribune Publishing’s Lewiston (Idaho) Morning Tribune just added its second 70 model.

Liberty Review Atlas in Galesburg, Ill., purchased two Trendsetter News 50 units, ThermalNews plates and Kodak’s Prinergy Evo workflow and Preps imposition apps.

In Canada, meantime, Sing Tao purchased a Trendsetter News model 70 and model 50 for its newspapers in Toronto and two of the 70 models for its Vancouver papers. The Black Press-Red Deer (Alberta) Advocate purchased a single Trendsetter News 70 with Kodak’s thermal digital plates.
