The St. Petersburg (Fla.)
Times selected Goss International Corp. to supply digital inkers for its
existing Metro and Metroliner presses.
The Times will upgrade 162
couples on the presses, said Alvin Nesmith, production manager.
“The digital inking upgrade
from Goss is an integral part of our improvement plan,” he said. “The product is
a cost-effective way of vastly enhancing print quality without having to invest
in a whole new press.”
The Times is in the midst of a
two-year project to improve its printing capabilities. The project includes a
web-width reduction to 50 inches, the addition of shaftless drives, upgraded
controls from Rockwell Automation and spraybar dampeners from technotrans (see
Newspapers & Technology, April 2006).
