  • Japan’s Kobe Shimbun Co. Ltd. placed an order with Goss International Corp. for a double-width Newsliner 90 press to increase the color in its daily newspapers. The new press will be installed at its existing facility in Kobe city and be on-edition by the middle of October, Goss said.
     

  • ABB said it was awarded a contract by Swiss newspaper publisher Solprint to install new automation, control and management systems on its two MAN Roland ColorMAN presses. The project includes the replacement of existing control systems and extension of one of the presses with additional colordeck units. Solprint prints the Solothurner Zeitung with four regional editions, 10 weekly newspapers and various other products including telephone directories.
     

  • Krause said it sold an LS Jet 300 violet computer-to-plate unit to Trinity Mirror in Glasgow, Scotland, and 18 LS Performance CTP systems to Indian newspaper group Dainik Jagran.
     

  • The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., is beefing up its Web site and other multimedia operations in a bid to woo new readers and advertisers. The newspaper said the plan will be phased in over the next two months and feature the launch of 40 micro-local community Web pages on its www.pe.com site.
     

  • TMSI said it was tapped by Central New York Newspaper Group to provide bundling distribution equipment that will work in conjunction with postpress systems from Goss International Corp. CNYNG is building a new plant to print the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, the Star-Gazette in Elmira and the Ithaca Journal. In addition to the bundling equipment, TMSI is providing six powered dock truck loaders, conveyors and bundle tracking software.
     

  • MAN Roland launched manrolanddirect.com, an online parts and consumables requisition service. The Web site contains information about more than 20,000 items, all of which can be ordered by part number, manufacturer or description, the company said.
     

  • Web Press Corp. sold two Quad-Stack color towers to Lillie Suburban Newspapers in North St. Paul, Minn. Lillie prints 11 weekly papers with a combined circulation in excess of 100,000 copies.
