Trib rolling out video streaming app for sites

Tribune Interactive said it will roll out streaming video software from WorldNow to bolster its newspaper and television Web sites.

New York-based WorldNow said it would provide Tribune with software, consulting and support services.

Tribune has already launched video on a number of its newspaper Web sites, including the Chicago Tribune, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel and Newsday in Long Island, N.Y. TV stations sites with streaming video include WPIX-TV in New  York, KTLA-TV in Los Angeles and WGN-TV in Chicago.

“The addition of the WorldNow system will enhance Tribune’s ability to deliver streaming video to the millions of consumers that turn to us for unique local content,” said Rick Felty, Tribune Broadcasting’s vice president of creative services. “For our advertisers, this system provides the kind of robust and flexible platform necessary for successful online sales and marketing.”

Tribune said it delivered more than 100,000 video streams on its chicagotribune.com site in five hours when the paper and its sister television station covered the Chicago White Sox’ victory parade after the team clinched the 2005 World Series.

The average viewing time for each stream was 22 minutes, said WorldNow.
