Tribune
Interactive said it will roll out streaming video software from WorldNow to
bolster its newspaper and television Web sites.
New
York-based WorldNow said it would provide Tribune with software, consulting and
support services.
Tribune
has already launched video on a number of its newspaper Web sites, including the
Chicago Tribune, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel and Newsday in Long Island, N.Y. TV
stations sites with streaming video include WPIX-TV in New
York, KTLA-TV in Los Angeles and WGN-TV in Chicago.
“The
addition of the WorldNow system will enhance Tribune’s ability to deliver
streaming video to the millions of consumers that turn to us for unique local
content,” said Rick Felty, Tribune Broadcasting’s vice president of creative
services. “For our advertisers, this system provides the kind of robust and
flexible platform necessary for successful online sales and marketing.”
Tribune
said it delivered more than 100,000 video streams on its chicagotribune.com site
in five hours when the paper and its sister television station covered the
Chicago White Sox’ victory parade after the team clinched the 2005 World
Series.
The
average viewing time for each stream was 22 minutes, said WorldNow.
