Harland Simon wraps up Turkish controls project

Harland Simon said it concluded upgrading a Honeywell control system on a Goss International Corp. Colorliner press used by Turkish publisher Merkez Gazete to publish three daily newspapers. The papers have a combined circulation in excess of 1.75 million copies.

The project, completed in five months and wrapped up late last year, included replacing main press controls, installing four Prima 6000 operator consoles and deploying management software.

With the upgrade completed, Merkez plans to commission two additional Colorliner towers to significantly increase page and color capacity, according to Harland Simon.

Merkez already has Harland Simon controls managing its other Goss presses, the firm said. By migrating all of Merkez’ machines to Harland Simon controls, the publisher will now have access to automatic impositioning, performance monitoring and ink presetting, the company said.

In the United States, Harland Simon has controls systems in place at The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn., The Orange County (Calif.) Register and the Chicago Sun-Times.
