The
Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, N.Y., the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel and
the Plattsburgh (N.Y.) Press-Republican each selected ProVision Alliance plate
punch/bender conveyors from K&F International for their plate production
operations.
The
Gannett-owned Press & Sun-Bulletin purchased two punch benders, capable of
250 plates per hour, for its three Kodak thermal platesetters. The newspaper’s
integrated plate conveyor and management system will collate plates based on
barcoding information generated by the newspaper’s front-end system, which
will direct the plates to the proper press.
Tribune’s
Orlando Sentinel, meantime, will install two ProVision punch benders capable of
automatically producing plates for 50- or 54-inch webs. A third punch bender
line will be solely dedicated to 50-inch web widths.
The
three lines at the Sentinel will work independently producing plates from the
newspaper’s conventional filmsetters.
K&F’s
ProVision alliance benders can be configured anywhere from 55- to 46-inch web
widths without the need to reconfigure existing parts or add extra parts, the
company said. K&F said it’s sold 18 of the systems since it introduced the
product at Nexpo ‘05.
The
Plattsburgh Press-Republican’s installation will consist of an Alliance Edge
bender, which the paper purchased through K&F’s sales partner Foley,
Torregiani and Associates, to finish plates from its ECRM platesetter. The
Alliance Edge will produce plates up to 38 inches and register plates using a
three-point electrical edge contact system matched to the platesetters.
Other
recent K&F installs:
*The
New Haven (Conn.) Register purchased two 140 Wide Gap Press Registrations
lockups to convert its Goss Metro press to a 48-inch web, which will be
installed in December.
*he
Bakersfield Californian purchased 92 No Tool/Narrow Gap Press Registration
lockups to convert its TKS tower to a 50-inch web later this year.
