Press of Atlantic City rolls out Anygraaf tools

N&T Staff Report

The Press of Atlantic City, N.J., is resuming its deployment of Anygraaf USA Inc.’s Doris32 asset management and publishing production software to serve as the paper’s editorial system.

The app will dovetail with Quark Inc.’s QuarkXPress for Windows layout app, according to Dave Skeels, IT manager at the newspaper.

“The installation began this past summer, but was put on hold due to another installation here at The Press,” he said. “We will resume in early November.”

The paper (daily, 68,590; Sunday, 85,709) is already using Doris32 to produce its weekly tabloid publication, The Shore, as well as its entertainment and opinion pages.

Skeels said that installation should be complete by the end of the first quarter 2006. Staff at the paper will be able to work more quickly and have more automation features once the software is completely deployed, he said.

“The new computers will run QuarkXPress more effectively, allowing the users to work faster,” he said. “Some of the automated features include Web uploads, archiving text and pictures as well as photo placement.”

Skeels said Doris32’s integration with other Anygraaf apps at the paper was a key consideration in selecting the software.

“We also use the Anygraaf ad production, ad layout and photo archive systems, making our integration easier,” he said.

Internet publishing capabilities, meantime, will enable The Press to automatically export articles and images to the newspaper’s Web site.
