Presstek Inc. announced the retirement of Richard A. Williams and the resignation of Barbara A. Pellow from its board of directors.

MAN Roland Inc. made two promotions in its web press division. Craig Simon was named to succeed the late Dick Conner as MAN Roland’s Northeast regional sales manager while Gary Day will expand his commercial web management duties to include newspaper web administration.

 

INDUSTRY

The Chicago Tribune named Bill Daley chief food and wine reporter for the newspaper, filling the position vacated by William Rice, who spent nearly 20 years at the newspaper before retiring last December.

Flint execs cited with NAPIM award

The Dallas Morning News named George Rodrigue vice president and managing editor, and announced additional changes in newsroom leadership and management. Changes include Stuart Wilk as vice president and associate editor, Gilbert Bailon as publisher and editor of Al D’a, Walt Stallings as senior deputy managing editor, Leona Allen as assistant managing editor of suburbs and Collin County, Sharon Grigsby as deputy editorial page editor, Mark Miller as assistant managing editor/Sunday/Page One enterprise/topics and Mark Edgar as assistant managing editor of national, international and state and politics.

Other appointments include Pam Maples as assistant managing editor/projects/investigations, Keith Campbell as assistant managing editor/news and copy desks and Maud Beelman as assistant metro editor-specialty/investigations.

 

Knight Ridder named Maureen Saltzer president and publisher of The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, Calif., effective June 14. She succeeds Par Ridder, who is now publisher of the Saint Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press.

 

Kenneth A. Paulson was named editor of USA Today. USA Today also announced several other newsroom appointments, including John Hillkirk to executive editor, Jim Henderson to managing editor, Carol Stevens to managing editor of the news section and Brian Gallagher to editorial page editor.

 

AWARDS

USA Today Founder Allen H. Neuharth, former chairman and chief executive officer of Gannett Co. Inc., is the recipient of the Newspaper Association of America’s Katharine Graham Lifetime Achievement Award. The award, established in 1998, is presented to individuals who have been conspicuous in their career accomplishments and whose leadership and contributions to the newspaper industry have been exemplary.
