DNA
closes deal on new Denver building
Plans
are moving along for the Denver Newspaper Agency’s new downtown headquarters
site.
The
DNA, the joint operating entity that manages the Rocky Mountain News and The
Denver Post, closed the deal last month, both newspapers reported.
The
Rocky Mountain News said the 11-story, 308,000-square-foot building would cost
nearly $86 million. Construction is expected to start this fall and the move-in
date is projected for Labor Day 2006.
The
Denver Newspaper Agency first announced its plans to consolidate its downtown
facilities last July.
The
Post and News have operated from separate buildings since their business
operations were consolidated under a JOA in January 2001. Agency offices have
been divided between the newspapers’ former downtown offices as well as three
other production sites.
The
new building will be designed to accommodate the separate editorial departments
of The Denver Post and the Rocky
Mountain News. In addition, the corporate offices of MediaNews Group, parent
company of The Post, will be housed in the new facility.
The
E.W. Scripps Co., owner of the News, may also have a corporate presence in the
new building.
