New service weds newspapers, Internet

A new service, AddaPix.com, is allowing newspaper classified advertisers to run up to six pictures with their online classified ad.

AddaPix claims better prices than eBay, for example, charging $7.50 to run an ad for three weeks on a newspaper’s Web site, complete with pictures.

“It’s the perfect marriage between newspapers and the Internet,” according to AddaPix co-founder Bob Hunter.

The idea for AddaPix.com came after Hunter tried to sell an antique couch. He said he knew showing pictures of the couch would be more effective than simply running an ad in the paper. Thus, Hunter and partner Merv Johnson created the service.

Of the $7.50 fee, $5 goes to participating newspapers and they aren’t required to pay a percentage of the sales, as they would be some other services, Hunter said.

“Newspapers that have signed up to participate with AddaPix.com gain a new source of revenue, without having to build elaborate Web sites and databases,” Hunter said.

Sellers can find participating newspapers at AddaPix.com. Users place their printed ads, obtain their Web links and then go online to create their listings.

Conversely, they can also go to AddaPix.com, create listings and get their Web links. Sellers can then go to any newspaper to place ads with the links.
