Colo., Neb. newspapers upgrade multimedia archiving applications

The (Denver) Rocky Mountain News, the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colo., and Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald purchased Software Construction Co.’s MediaServer multimedia archiving application.

The software will replace both newspapers’ existing photo archiving systems and will serve as their central photo desks for wire and staff photos. It will also serve as an archive of photos, graphics and newspaper pages stored in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

At the Daily Camera, MediaServer provides access to 15 concurrent SCC MediaGrid and Web Browser clients on both Windows and Macintosh workstations. In Omaha, the software serves 50 users.

The Rocky Mountain News is giving more than 100 users access to SCC’s software. It is replacing an AP Preserver system, the News said.
