Mactive Inc. made the following personnel moves. Russ Van Iderstine to platform/database specialist; Nancy Hackett to project accountant; John Robertson to facilities specialist; Brent Turner to A/R specialist; Amy Hancock to accountant; Jeremy Bambace to AdBase specialist; Lara Gordon to application specialist; Donna Beasley to quality assurance and Kate Rochelle to project manager.

Creo Americas promoted Patrick Morrissey to vice president of sales. Morrissey will head Creo’s North American and Latin American sales efforts.

John R. Steker joins TKS (USA) as manager of technical support services.

Goss International named Merita Sheive director of parts sales, aftermarket. She will be based at Goss’ U.S. headquarters in Bolingbrook, Ill.

 

INDUSTRY

Knight Ridder appointed Miami Herald Vice President/Finance and Chief Financial Officer Carlos Abaunza as vice president and corporate controller. He replaces Margaret Randazzo, who will be assistant to the president and vice president of the newspaper division. Abaunza will have overall responsibility for financial reporting, corporate accounting and risk management.

 

Susan Deans was hired at the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colo., as the newspaper’s new editor. Deans was formerly assistant managing editor at the (Denver) Rocky Mountain News. She succeeds Colleen C. Conant, who retired from the Daily Camera.

 

Mary Ellen Holden was named senior vice president of marketing and Jerry Fragetti was named senior vice president of media and operations for the Newspaper National Network LP.

 




Jeff Levine was named director of marketing of Sun-Sentinel Co. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Levine  formerly served as Newsday’s promotion director and director of marketing services. He also serves on the board of directors of the Newspaper Association of America/Market Development Federation.








Pat Thompson was named deputy managing editor of the Sun-Sentinel. Thompson spent 15 years at the San Jose News (Calif.) Mercury News, where she held various editorial positions, including state editor and assistant managing editor for zoned sections.

 

Frank Spasoff, former director of internal audit for Gannett Co. Inc., was appointed assistant controller of the company.

 

Pulitzer Newspapers Inc. named Jane Amari vice president of news. She will continue in her present role as editor and publisher of the (Tucscon) Arizona Daily Star. Amari will consult with PNI publishers and editors on editorial strategies, redesigns, acquisition assessments and retention, and professional development issues.

The New York Times Co. elected Thomas Middelhoff to its board of directors. Middelhoff is head of corporate investment at Investcorp in Europe.

 

OBITUARIES

Edward A. Casson Jr., Southern Lithoplate chairman and chief executive officer, died Sept. 1, in Wake Forest, N.C. He was 68.

He is survived by his wife Ronalda “Ronnie” and their children, Edward A. “Trip” Casson and his wife, Dianne; Teresa Higgins and her husband, Robert; Kimberly Phelps and her husband, Marion; Cynthia Higgins and her husband, Glenn; Clark Casson and his wife, Michelle and Brandon Casson and his fiancŽ, Lindalee “Lennie” Edwards. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Francis Casson; sisters, Collette Edwards, Donna Eichor, Christine Casson, and Mary Francis “Muffy” Petty; his brother, Thomas Casson, and 11 grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC  27603 and Wake Hospice, 1300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC  27605.
