Record in Stockton getting $20M facelift

Dow Jones & Co. said it would spend up to $20 million for a new facility housing a press, mailroom and other associated equipment for The Record in Stockton, Calif.

Dow Jones, which recently purchased the newspaper, said it would build the new facility immediately adjacent to the daily’s existing downtown plant.

Dow Jones said it wants the plant to house a 55,000 copy-per-hour press capable of producing a 56-page newspaper with up to 16 color pages. The new facility will also include packaging and distribution equipment. Completion is scheduled for late 2005.

The new press will replace The Record’s existing letterpress manufactured by Goss.

“The project will mean better service for our readers all across San Joaquin and Calaveras counties and for advertisers who want to reach customers,” said Roger Coover, Record publisher.
