Managing Editor Inc. appointed Dana Bascom as territory sales manager for the Northeast region. Bascom will manage the sale of MEI’s software applications and enterprise systems to newspapers and magazines in the Northeast and Great Lakes areas. Bascom previously worked for MEI from 1994-2000 as the company’s first professional sales executive.

 

ECRM Imaging Systems appointed Norman Reedman as vice president of sales for North America.

 

Atex Media Command named Jo Ann Froelich chief executive officer for the Americas. Froelich previously was president of Digital Technology International for 12 years. Nancy Faunce was named president of AMC’s new major systems development division. She will be responsible for the development and implementation of Dow Jones’ deployment of AMC’s Web-based advertising application. lan Reardon7 meanwhile, was named corporate development director.

MAN Roland Inc. named Eric D. Belcher chief operating officer of sheetfed operations. He formerly served as the company’s chief financial officer. In his new post, he will oversee sheetfed operations throughout North America. MAN Roland also named Susan K. Klutnick Western regional sales manager for commercial web.

Heidelberg USA hired Frank Woods as consultant at-large, offering advice to Heidelberg’s sheetfed, digital, prepress and finishing customers.

 

INDUSTRY

Howell Raines resigned as executive editor and Gerald M. Boyd resigned as managing editor of The New York Times. Former Times executive editor Joseph Lelyveld was named interim executive editor.

 

Scripps Howard Foundation named Jody Beck to head its “Semester in Washington” reporting laboratory for college journalism students. She succeeds Martha Wilson, who led the program since 1999.

Amanda Bennett was named editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer. She succeeds Walker Lundyż who retired in June. As managing editor/enterprise at The Oregonian in Portland, she led a team of reporters that won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for public service for documenting the mistreatment of immigrants by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

 

Gannett Co. Inc. named three senior vice presidents. Mark S. Mikolajczyk becomes senior vice president of operations. Donald M. Stinson becomes senior vice president of marketing. John A. (Jack) Williams becomes senior vice president/diversified businesses & development.

Mikolajczyk will coordinate division activities in manufacturing, facilities and capital planning, as well as commercial printing.

Stinson will oversee division activities in advertising, circulation, customer programs, market development and research.

Williams will continue to supervise the division’s online operations, which include more than 100 domestic Web sites. He also will oversee several non-newspaper businesses and participate in acquisition activities.

FKI Logistex Alvey Systems appointed Tony DiNello as director of Midwest regional operations and Jeff Cortez as operations manager, Midwest region. In his new role, DiNello will be in charge of day-to-day and strategic operations throughout the Midwest. Cortez will direct all pre- and post-order engineering activities.
