Politiken, a Danish newspaper based in
Copenhagen, has begun carrying a weekly news supplement produced by The New York
Times.
The Danish daily joins the Listin Diario in the
Dominican Republic, Asian Age in India and Diario de Hoy in El Salvador, in
distributing the package.
“Politiken will be the first Scandinavian
newspaper to publish a weekly section in English,” said Per Knudsen, the paper’s
editor-in-chief. “We believe there is a demand for it.”
The supplement retains The New York Times’
layout and typography.
The supplement is also published in English for
Asian Age readers; the Dominican Republic and El Salvador versions are printed
in Spanish.
The supplement includes news coverage,
commentary, color photos and graphics about the United States, world affairs,
business, culture and social trends. They are prepared by a team of editors and
designers from The New York Times News Service in New York.
The addition of Politiken brings to nine the
number of papers worldwide carrying the supplement. Other papers are Le Monde of
France, where the supplement was launched in April 2002, and four Grupo Reforma
newspapers in Mexico — El Norte in Monterrey, Reforma in Mexico City, Mural in
Guadalajara and Palabra in Saltillo.
