MCC Publishing Consultants Inc. announced that it is working with The Washington Post for the conversion and customization of the newspaper’s dictionaries and related programs to be used with its CCI Europe publishing system. MCC is implementing its TextStream products at The Post.

The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times installed a multimedia production and archive database system from the Software Construction Co. SCC’s MediaServer replaces two legacy Preserver photo management and archive systems from The Associated Press, as well as an LASR text archive system from System Integrators Inc. The system provides access to 120 concurrent SCC MediaGrid and Web browser clients on both Windows and Macintosh computers. The installation includes the following optional modules: MediaServer Delivery, which supports automatic reformatting and delivery of files; MediaServer Assignment, which provides tools enabling the paper to track and edit assignments with related photo and graphic objects; and MediaServer Microsoft Word Integration, which lets the text application access, display and change the attributes of graphic objects.

The York (Pa.) Daily Record and York (Pa.) Dispatch went into live production on Harris Publishing System’s AdPower Classified system. The York Newspaper Co., which purchased the AdPower system was created under the terms of a joint operating agreement between the newspapers, purchased AdPower, AdWebster and Contact Management production to help increase productivity and revenue. The system combines sales, production and reporting functions.

Managing Editor Inc. and SoftCare GmbH have each rolled out version 4.1 of the K4 publishing system. The workflow system is based on Adobe InDesign 2.0 and Adobe InCopy 2.0, built on top of a Structured Query Language database. New features include the ability to automatically alert editors when layouts or content has been changed. In addition, all articles belonging to the same layout can be checked out more easily. The upgraded application can be used with Macintosh OS 9 and OS X and Windows 98/NT/2000.

Nela Ternes Register Group donated a H-VCP 2002 Vision Control Positioning PunchBender, to the new Graphic Arts Technical Foundation training facility in Sewickley, Pa. The new punch bender is designed to work on new web presses and is able to shear plates on side prior to bending and meet the tolerances of the MAN Roland RotoMAN press at the training center.

Nela Ternes Register Group was selected as a sponsor for the new GATF training facility. The new training and research facility will incorporate technology from a number of industry suppliers.

Fusion Systems International announced two partnership agreements with Dalim Software and Xinet Software solutions. Fusion Systems is now a major regional reseller of Xinet Software solutions for ColorRay and DigiPage, which include Xinet plug-in modules for key functionality and are bundled with Dalim Software products as part of several large-scale solutions.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill., licensed Publishing Business Systems’ MediaPlus Advertising Management, Advertising InSight, and Transient Management solutions. The contract also includes The Courier in Lincoln, Ill.

The Journal-Register selected the PBS advertising system because it included the functionality that the newspaper needed in a client/server environment, the newspaper said. Both newspapers are owned by Copley Press Inc. of La Jolla, Calif.

Enovation Graphics Systems Inc. announced the formation of Arkin Graphics Inc. The company, which will be based in Flushing, N.Y., was created to acquire the graphic arts products distribution businesses from Arkin-Medo Inc. of Flushing. Arkin Graphics will continue to serve the companies and customers previously served by Arkin-Medo.

Siebel Systems Inc. released Siebel 7.5, the latest upgrade of Siebel e-business applications. The new customer resource management-software eatures industry-specific functions for multi-channel sales, marketing, service and partner and employee relationship management. Siebel 7.5 supports stands such as simple object access protocol and Web service definition language and is able to publish business services and workflow processes as Web Services.

Software Consulting Services signed a joint marketing agreement with Quickwire to combine the Scoop editorial system with QuickWire wire capture and management modules. Scoop and Quickwire will offer newspapers an integrated editorial and wire handling solution.

Graphic Enterprises Inc. and Xanté Corp. announced a reseller agreement in which GEI will offer specific Xanté’s printer products to the newspaper industry.

Since Xanté has not previously marketed its products specifically to the newspaper market, the agreement positions the company to expand its market potential with GEI’s existing customer base and industry knowledge.
