El Comercio in Peru is using Convera’s RetrievalWare search and retrieval technology on its company-wide intranet portal. RetrievalWare will give the newspaper’s 500 editorial staffers access to El Comercio’s archive of more than 3 million Spanish-language articles.

The newspaper also deployed Convera’s Visual RetrievalWare for image archiving, which enables users to find images from a database of news agency photos, staff photos and internal artwork. The solution was deployed by Convera’s Spain-based partner OCS Software.

El Comercio, one of the oldest papers in the Americas, is Peru’s largest daily.

The United Kingdom’s Press Association has gone live with Harris Publishing Systems’ Jazbox editorial production system. More than 200 reporters and editors are using the Newsjaz portion of Jazbox at

The Press Association’s sites in Howden and London. Editorial staffers in bureaus in Scotland and Northern Ireland have also begun to use the system.
