Autologic, an Agfa Co. released NewsPlate Premium Edition, a new analog plate designed for the newspaper industry. NewsPlate Premium Edition neutralizes halation issues through micropigmentation; a microscopic roughening of the plate’s surface developed by Agfa. The roughened surface facilitates air channels and prevents air bubbles between the plate and film.

Resolution and sharpness for NewsPlate ranges from two to 97 percent and is available in 0.008- and 0.012 inch-gauges. The plate is negative working and is exposed at 380 to 420 nanometers.

Kodak Polychrome Graphics released Matchprint Inkjet System 2.5, an upgrade of its color raster image processor software for large-format inkjet printers. New features in Matchprint include Scitex CT/LW and JPEG file capability, new color space support for RGB and LAB files and printer support for the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet 10, 20 and 50 series printers.

KPG also added cropping and tile production tools to the Matchprint software. Other features include a color managed print preview using ICC profiles, a new color profile database and expanded external measurement device support.

The Naples Daily News recently chose Harris Corp.’s AdPower as its new classified advertising system. The newspaper will go live on the system at the beginning of October and will continue to use Harris' AdPag classified layout product. AdPower's components work together to create an advertising environment blending sales, production and reporting functions.

The Free Lance-Star in Fredricksburg, Va. installed Creo Inc’s Trendsetter News 100 computer-to –plate system. The Creo thermal platesetter was in full production imaging Southern Litho Cobra 830TN plates less than two after installation at The Free Lance-Star. The Trendsetter News platesetter is a thermal imaging CTP system with automatic plate loading and unloading.

Presstek Inc. announced an agreement with Creo Inc. under which Presstek’s Anthem chemistry-free thermal plate can be bundled with news sales of Creo four-page and eight-page Trendsetter Quantum computer-to-plate systems in the United States, Europe and Canada. Anthem plates will be exhibited in both the Creo and Presstek booths at the Graph Expo trade show in Chicago, Oct. 8-9.

Pantone Inc. announced Pantone Colors for Palm, which is Palm OS-compatible software designed to provide instant access to information for the 1,114 colors of the Pantone Matching System coated library at lower costs to users. Pantone Colors provide RGB 0-255 and HyperText Markup Language data, and identifies when Pantone Matching System colors are achievable in RGB, CMYK and Pantone Hexachrome.

Bestcolor USA released Best PhotoXposure and Best Photo Edition, which allows news photographers to determine how a photograph will appear when printed.

Both products support RGB and CMYK workflows and prints full-size proofs, posters and banners directly from the photo file. PhotoXposure is Windows-based, while Best Photo Edition is designed to on Macintosh-based computers PhotoXposure won a Digital Imaging Marketing Association award for image quality and color accuracy at the 2002 Photo Marketing Show.

5 Fifteen released its Seconds Out deduplication software, which automatically detects duplicate name and address information in advertising, customer and subscriber databases. The new version is incorporated into 5 Fifteen’s Maxim advertising and circulation systems is available as a stand-alone program. The Seconds Out technology can also be integrated into third-party systems through a published application-programming interface.

Advo Inc. signed a new five-year agreement with the (Fairfield County- Bridgeport) Connecticut Post, a MediaNews Group property.

The agreement provides for the combined distribution of Advo’s direct mail advertising package with advertisement from the Connecticut Post. Under the terms of the agreement, Advo will distribute a direct mail package of advertising to all-non subscribers of the Post in the southern Connecticut market. The Post will distribute a similar package weekly to its subscribers through newspaper delivery. Starting In September the packages will be issued in a co-branded Connecticut Post – ShopWise wrap.

The Kingsport (Tenn.) News has licensed Publishing Business Systems’ MediaPlus Advertising Management, MediaPlus.Online Advertising and Advertising InSight software. The new software will allow customers in the northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia area 24-hour customer service through the Internet. Advertising InSight will allow the newspaper to analyze their customers and buying patterns.

Kodak Professional announced new high-resolution film scanning software and scanner accessories that offer museums, medical facilities, photo labs and other professional imaging operations high-volume, stand-alone scan-to-disk archiving capabilities. The company’s Kodak Professional HR Scanning Software brings image capture to new segments of customers and supports two of the company’s growth strategies: to extend the use of film and expand into new markets.

Kodak also announced the availability of its new Kodak Professional Portra 400UC Color Negative Film — developed with commercial, fashion, editorial, architecture, advertising and nature images in mind — designed to achieve high-color pop and low grain associated with color reversal films while retaining the skin tones for which Portra films are known.
