The San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported in
late June that office vacancy rates in the Soma district in San Francisco were
surpassing 25 percent, so perhaps parts of the city, while not stopping, are
certainly taking a breather.
It is against this uncertain backdrop that media
professionals converge on the Moscone Convention Center Sept. 9-12 to learn
about six key topic areas: Print publishing, Web publishing, design, content
management, technology standards and digital rights management.
Adobe Systems Inc. will be showing their entire
suite of products, many of which have recently undergone upgrades. Photoshop
7.0, FrameMaker 7.0, InDesign 2.0 and Illustrator 10 will be featured.
Shantanu Narayen, Adobe’s executive vice
president of worldwide products, will be speaking at the conference on the topic
of how advances in network publishing are increasing the speed and productivity
of business.
Frank Gilbane, editor of The Gilbane Report, is
chairing the Gilbane Conference on content management, a conference track that
concentrates on managing enterprise-wide content. Stellent is the platinum
sponsor of that conference, and will be showing their suite of products that
includes collaboration server and content server.
“At this premier industry event, we will
demonstrate how the new features and capabilities of Stellent Content Management
expand the boundaries of traditional content management systems and provide even
greater efficiencies for organizations moving forward,” commented Dan Ryan,
senior vice president of marketing and business development.
In the Adobe Solutions Network area, Callas
Software will be showing a new product called Callas Process, which consists of
solutions designed for the automated execution of repetitive processes.
Also from Callas is MadeToPrint for Adobe
InDesign 2.0, which controls one or several print jobs for several output
devices through one single dialog box, and QXPlan2, an Acrobat-based production
planning and tracking solution for ad and editorial production as well as for
professional prepress facilities.
North Plains Systems is also offering content
management solutions. Vice President and Director of Technology Todd Eckler is a
featured speaker at the Gilbane conference.
“Seybold San Francisco provides us with a
platform to continue communicating the effectiveness and strength of our
Mac-native enterprise asset management solution,” said Eckler. “During my
Thursday keynote panel on content management strategies for enterprises, I will
outline how critical and cost-effective an enterprise asset solution is for
global organizations, and the role of [information technology] in supporting the
solution.”
TripleArc and Objective Advantage Inc. worked
together on a number of software products, and built up a body of knowledge on
the Job Definition Format.
This allowed the creation of a new development
environment called JDP, JDF Development Platform. JDP includes a number of
features, such as an event-driven workflow engine that understands and works
with JDF jobs and can be driven by inbound JMF messages.
JDP is written using .NET technologies and can be
used with any .NET language on any .NET platform. .NET is currently available
for Microsoft Windows including an embedded version that works with Windows CE.
Objective Advantage is a member of CIP4, while their print industry partner
TripleArc is a member of PrintTalk.
Xinet Inc. will be showing their complete suite
of software products. WebNative is an asset management and distribution tool
that provides secure, remote access to their FullPress server.
Ixiasoft will be showcasing TextML Server. TextML
Server is an eXtensible Markup Language content server whose purpose is to
store, index and retrieve XML content.
“We expect to find more partners to embed our
technology,” said Jerome Laredo, marketing director.
“In fact, the software developed by Ixiasoft is
designed for document management experts who want to develop solutions to
optimize content management. Because of this model, Ixiasoft can offer a very
competitive pricing model and therefore becomes a cost effective tool.”
RedDot Solutions, a New York-based company
creating content-management and Web-management products, will be showcasing
three software solutions. Content Integration Server is a J2EE-based,
platform-independent architecture for content integration and application logic.
RedDot CIS enables users to develop personalized, dynamic content and track
behavior. Content Management Server is a browser-based software set that allows
for remote management of varied types of content, both in intranets and
extranets. The Content Import Engine allows for the custom management of
external data sources, such as taking a Reuters news feed and integrating it
into an existing Web site. Data can be published directly or edited further in
RedDot CMS.
Iceni Technology Ltd. will be previewing News
Studio Version 2, which identifies newspaper editorial content by grouping
headlines, by-lines, body text, pictures and captions before the conversion to
straight text.
Graphic Technology Inc. will be introducing the
newly redesigned Soft-View series of D5000 desktop color viewing systems for
print and transparency viewing.
