Listín Diario, located in Santa Domingo in the
Dominican Republic, has selected Digital Technology International’s NewsSpeed
editorial publishing suite to replace its Atex J-11 editorial system.
DTI’s archive solution SpeedLibrarian will also
be implemented along with PageSpeed Web Publisher. Other titles also to be
produced using NewsSpeed include Ultima Hora and El Expreso.
Listín Diario was the first newspaper in Latin
America to be printed on an offset printer system. The paper continues to take
advantage of the latest technologies available.
One of the reasons DTI was chosen was because of
the close integration of its applications with Adobe products. PageSpeed, DTI’s
page design and layout application, utilizes the design tools of Adobe InDesign
2.0.
SpeedWriter incorporates InCopy 2.0.
“The true WYSIWYG editing and H&J features
are what stuck out most in my mind when evaluating the system,” said Manuel
Alvarez, information technology director of Listín Diario. “DTI’s system
had all the features we were looking for in an editorial system.”
PageSpeed Web Publisher will be used to
electronically publish stories and photos to the Web. The system will allow
stories to be scheduled and assigned a priority to indicate their location on
the Web site.
SpeedLibrarian will be used to archive stories
and photos. Stories and photos will move from the production databases to the
archive databases automatically and the archives will be available to every
user.
NewsSpeed is a cross-platform system. Listín
Diario will utilize both Mac and PC workstations. The 103 SpeedWriter seats to
be used by reporters will be installed on PCs, while the editors and page
designers using 55 PageSpeed seats will work on Macs.
Listín Diario has a daily circulation of 90,000.
Ultima Hora has a daily circulation of 110,000 and El Expreso has a daily
circulation of 160,000.
