First Newsliner-A in Spain offers new possibilities

With a population of over 600,000 inhabitants, Zaragoza is an important commercial center in Spain. This metropolis in the valley of the river Ebro is the capital of Aragon. The Heraldo de Aragon appears seven days a week with an edition of 70,000 to 110,000 copies in “Berlin” format (490-by-330 millimeters), printed on a KBA Comet with an output of 35,000 copies per hour in single production mode or 70,000 in two-up production.

In June 2002, a second KBA Comet was installed in a new building, so the company has been on the lookout for new options in the finishing section.

The contract for a mailroom solution was awarded to Muller Martini, in the form of the first Newsliner-A to be installed in Spain. Heraldo de Aragon is also going to make a start in the inserting business. Such considerations as a zoning system and flexibility in the configuration of the newspaper spoke in favor of the system offered by Muller Martini. Of particular significance here was the extremely flexible, small-zone-oriented GCS mailroom control system.

Equipment to be installed includes Newsgrip conveyors, a FlexiRoll buffer with six stations, a FlexiRoll double unwinding station, a Newsliner-A inserting system, a bundle building with PrintStack CN-80 and GCS control system and a loading dock system with telescopic belts.

At Heraldo de Aragon, a printing center is being built in which various products can be printed and finished in different formats. It was a decisive factor that the new system, and especially the Newsliner-A, is capable of finishing formats from 360 mm to 420 mm in width.
