News International plc, the largest national newspaper publisher in the United Kingdom, won the 2002 Newspaper Award for Best Implementation of Computer-to-Plate Technology, as given by Production Journal, a newspaper trade magazine serving the United Kingdom. The award is given based upon how the implementation of CTP technology has improved the quality of a newspaper and how CTP has enhanced workflow and overall production.

 

Goss International appointed SRS Equipamentos Gráficos Ltda, based in Sao Paulo, as its exclusive agent for the Brazilian market.

With a staff of 25 people, SRS is responsible for introducing a range of technologies to the entire Brazilian graphic arts market, including the first Autokon black and white scanners and the first color scanners. Its customer portfolio comprises companies including ECRM, OneVision, X-Rite, K&F and Escher-Grad.

 

The Neue Zurcher Zeitung AG ordered two new WIFAG printing presses for its facility in Schlieren, Zurich. The NZZ AG is modernizing and expanding its newspaper printing facility, which will include an extension to the current press hall.

 

The financial journal L’AGEFI is the first French newspaper that will use the Milenium Cross Media solution, developed by Protec for its editorial publication management and production. This Milenium solution is expected to serve L’AGEFI’s editorial business in order to take advantage of the resources, both human and informative.

 

 

A groundbreaking ceremony took place June 11 at the future site of the Transcontinental printing plant that will print La Presse daily newspaper. Transcontinental will begin printing La Presse at the new plant in the fall of 2003. The initial 15-year contract is valued at about $60 million a year.

The 125,000 square-foot facility will include technological developments in quality, use of color, flexibility and printing speed. It will be equipped with the Heidelberg-Harris Mainstream 80 press currently being introduced at Londonís Daily Telegraph, the largest daily newspaper in Great Britain.

The newspaper publisher Gesca, an affiliate of Power Corp. of Canada, owns la Presse. The French-language newspaper is published seven days a week with a readership of 880,000.
