Joseph D. Pargola joined X-Rite Inc. as manager of dealer development for its North America Imaging business unit. In his role, Pargola will be responsible for managing, developing and expanding X-Rite’s dealer relationships and channels for the graphic arts and medical markets.


Enovation Graphics Systems Inc. named Michael Borne director of business development. Phil Kane was appointed to director of business development, electric imaging. Robert J. Kurelic was named director of national accounts sales.

Eastman Kodak Co. announced that Patricia F. Russo resigned as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately, to become the chief executive officer of Lucent Technologies Inc. Kodak Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel A. Carp will re-assume the responsibilities of president and COO.

Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc. appointed Camilla Jenkins to the newly created position of vice president of corporate communications.

The functions reporting to Jenkins include: public relations, corporate contributions and community relations, financial relations, environmental and safety affairs, consumer information services, internal communications, Web site operations and corporate sponsorships.

Imation Corp. announced the appointment of John L. Sullivan to the position of senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

He was elected to senior vice president by Imation’s board of directors and reports to William Monahan, Imation chairman and chief executive officer.

Global anilox roll supplier Harper Co. of America recently promoted David Brewer to the position of corporate technical manager. His primary responsibilities are to manage Harper’s Technical Consulting Group, regionally located throughout the United States. He will also continue working with customers directly on projects such as graphic improvement programs and anilox recommendations.


IST America named Karl L. Schmucker web sales representative, responsible for end-user applications. Before joining IST America, Schmucker held sales management positions with Nilpeter and Goss Graphic Systems. He also has paper technology experience and holds a degree in environmental science.



The board of directors of Bowater Inc. recently elected Togo D. West Jr. to the company’s board of directors. West is of counsel to Covington & Burling, a law firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., and served as secretary of Veterans Affairs in the Clinton administration from 1998 to 2000 and as Secretary of the Army from 1993 to 1998.

MacDermid Inc. announced the appointment of Thomas Frater as business manager for printing sleeves. Frater will direct the expansion of MacDermid’s advanced printing sleeve systems and digital sleeve solutions, reporting directly to Stephen Largan, president of MacDermid Printing Solutions. Frater will be based in the MacDermid Printing Solutions headquarters in Atlanta.

Honeywell announced that its board of directors has elected David M. Cote president, chief executive officer and member of the board, effective immediately. Prior to his appointment, Cote served as chairman, president, and CEO of TRW. Before joining TRW, he spent 25 years in various management and leadership positions at GE.

Sun Chemical, a manufacturer of printing inks and organic pigments, announced that its current president, Wes Lucas, will succeed Henri Dyner as chief executive officer, while continuing his duties as president. Dyner has elected to step down as CEO and will continue his close involvement with the business, but on a part-time basis, working in an advisory role to Lucas and providing support in ongoing relationships with larger customers, as well as ongoing strategic projects for the company.

 

NEW MEDIA

Wam!Net recently named Michael Williams to the position of chief executive officer. Williams joins Wam!Net from Lockheed Martin, where he most recently served as president and general manager of the Systems and Technology business of Lockheed Martin’s Global Telecommunications Organization He brings to Wam!Net more than 30 years experience in domestic and international business development, information technology and telecommunications systems engineering, and global program leadership in both the commercial and government sectors.

 

INDUSTRY

Margaret Krost has been named senior vice president of sales and marketing for the San Francisco Chronicle. Krost will be responsible for advertising and all revenue-related marketing operations at the Chronicle.

Mickey Bella, vice president of operations at the Salisbury Post in Salisbury, N.C., was given the additional responsibilities of director of production for the Post’s parent company, the Evening Post Publishing Co. of Charleston, S.C. Bella remains based in Salisbury and will continue his duties there while also coordinating production operations among all Evening Post newspapers.

The Washington Post Co. announced that Donald E. Graham, chairman and chief executive officer, has been named co-chair of the International Herald Tribune. Graham fills the vacancy once held by the late Katharine Graham who was co-chair from 1966 to 2001.

The Washington Post also announced that Wallace R. Cooney was elected controller. He succeeds Matthew C. Seelye, who has joined Quest Education, a unit of Kaplan Inc., as vice president and chief financial officer.s

The New York Times Co. announced that R. Anthony Benten was promoted to treasurer. He replaces James C. Lessersohn, who was named to the new position of vice president of finance and corporate development. Lessersohn will report to Leonard P. Forman, the company’s senior vice president who will become CFO upon the retirement of John M. O’Brien.

 

Two executive promotions were recently announced by Gannett Co. Inc.

Larry Miller, executive vice president and chief financial officer, was named executive vice president of operations and chief financial officer of Gannett. He will work to improve operational efficiencies in the company and will continue his operational role with Newsquest plc, Gannett’s division in the United Kingdom.

Gracia Martore, treasurer and vice president of investor relations, was named senior vice president of finance and treasurer. She will add to her supervisory duties in the finance department and continue her responsibility for investor relations and as treasurer.

Steve Gray, the managing publisher of the Christian Science Monitor (Boston), was elected to serve as the 2002 president of Inland Press Association. Inland members also elected Jeff Brown, president, Home News Enterprise in Columbus, Ind., for the Inland Press Foundation presidency.

Knight Ridder announced that Mary Jacobus has been named president and chief executive officer of Fort Wayne Newspapers Inc. and publisher of The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Ind. She replaces Scott McGehee who retired at the end of last year.

Journal Register Co. recently announced the promotion of Kevin F. Walsh to publisher of the New Haven Register effective January 1. Walsh replaces Thomas E. Rice, who in addition to his duties as senior vice president, operations of Journal Register Company, has been publisher of the New Haven Register since March of 2001. Rice will continue in his role as senior vice president of operations.

R.W. Apple Jr. was recently appointed to associate editor at the New York Times. Apple was previously held the position of chief political and foreign correspondent for the past five years will remain based in Washington.

Karen Timmons became the managing editor of Scripps Howard News Service in Washington. Timmons succeeds Mark Tomasik, who was promoted to executive editor of Scripps Treasure Coast Publishing Co. in Stuart, Fla.

Sam Boyle the chief of bureau at the Associated Press in New York City for the past 19 years was promoted to assistant business editor for special projects. His new responsibilities include directing a new editorial initiative by AP and Dow Jones News Service.

Lee Enterprises recently promoted Randy Rickman to general manager of its Nickel Publications operations in the Portland, Ore. and Seattle regions. The operations include the Little Nickel, a classified advertising publication based in Lynnwood, Wash. that has a weekly distribution of 320,000 in the Seattle area and a weekly circulation of 175,000 at the Portland publication.

The Pitman Co. recently made two new appointments in their organization. Dave Archer was named branch manager of its Hayward, Calif sales and distribution operations serving customers in Northern California and Nevada. Marc Welc was named electronics specialist in the company’s northeast region. Welch will provide Pitman customers consultative support in six New England states in workflow planning and in the selection of systems that serve their operating needs.
