Nation Media Group, an East African newspaper
publishing house based in Nairobi, Kenya, ordered an additional reelstand and
four-high tower for 4/4 to enhance the capacity and production flexibility of
the KBA Comet pressline it inaugurated in early 1997 and has already extended
once in 1998.
Shipment of the equipment is slated for October.
Nation Media Group attracts more advertising
revenue than all the other Kenyan newspapers combined.

The shaftless pressline in Nairobi has a 22-inch cutoff and a maximum web width
of 33 inches to support a broad array of dailies, weeklies and periodicals.
These include the Daily Nation (daily, 170,000), Sunday Nation (daily, 220,000),
East Africas best-selling weekly business newspaper, The East African (daily
30,000), a Swahili daily, Taifa Leo (daily, 30,000), and a Swahili weekly, Taifa
Jumapili (daily, 35,000). These, together with supplements, flyers and contract
work for other printers in Kenya and, via airmail, the rest of East Africa, keep
the KBA Comet running constantly.

The four KBA Ergotronic control consoles
feature link-ups for remote diagnostics.

The installation of the new Amal AR 60 reelstand,
KBA Patras M manual reel-loading system and four-high tower of H-type units will
be accompanied by an upgrade in press automation and controls. The pressline
will then boast 11 reelstands, 40 printing couples (three four-high towers of
H-type units, four two-high towers of arch-type units), two 2:3:2 KF 64 jaw
folders and four KBA Ergotronic consoles with remote diagnostics link.
The press has an hourly rated output of 60,000
64-page tabloids (eight pages 4/4, 24 pages 1/1, 32 pages 1/1 plus additional
spot color) and 30,000 24-page broadsheet copies (16 pages 2/2, 8 pages 1/1).
