Latest prepress merger creates GEI CalGraph

Graphic Enterprises Inc. in February announced that it has finalized the acquisition of CalGraph Inc. The newly formed entity, GEI CalGraph, will service the wide-format printing industry in North America with a particular focus on newspaper, engineering and commercial markets.

GEI CalGraph will offer expertise in color, scanning, xerographics, electrostatic, vector/mechanical, direct thermal transfer, thermal inkjet, piezo electric, solvent and other imaging technologies.

GEI and CalGraph have similar backgrounds, having both served the wide-format printing industry for more than 30 years. CalGraph formerly specialized in the architectural and engineering fields and GEI in the prepress and print-for-pay markets.

“The new division … will continue to build upon a foundation of solid experience and customer commitment in continuing our expansion as a … third-party services provider,” said Mark Lewis, president of the newly formed company.

GEI CalGraph will continue to service the customer bases of each company as well.

“With this acquisition there will be an increased knowledge base of technical expertise, especially in the area of color calibration and management,” said Les Beyeler, president of GEI. “The combined knowledge base will allow us to increase the services offered and upgrade the quality level of customer service and support our customers expect.”

Corporate headquarters for GEI CalGraph will be in North Canton, Ohio, with West Coast operations based in Fullerton, Calif., and Canadian operations in Woodbrige, Ontario.
