Krupp opens new production site, begins using new LaserStar Violet Autoloader

The family-operated companies of Krupp Druck GmbH and Krupp Verlag GmbH of Sinzig can look back to many positive developments in their companies in 2001, and the group continues to grow year after year.

Krupp not only celebrates its 125-year anniversary but after six months construction time, has moved into their new production and administration facilities.

Krupp Druck produces weeklies and commercial products. The new M 600 Heidelberg web, installed in the new buildings, handles the increasing circulation of the weeklies and reduces the production times of the Speedmasters used so far.

Prepress has always been a focus of technical innovation at Krupp. In 1994 a digital scanner combined with an Agfa computer-to-plate unit that exposed polyester plates increased plate production, followed by a first CTP unit in 1996. Full CTP plate production started in 1997 with the installation of a Krause LaserStar LS 110 C Autoloader.

With the rising plate requirements and satisfactory experiences with Krause, Krupp added a second LaserStar LS 110 V Autoloader equipped with violet laser diode technology this year. It is installed alongside the first machine in the new building.

The machines are run by the Krause Navigo Advance workflow including the PDF-based high-end Imposition Unit Krause KIM PDF. Navigo Advance separates the ripping process from the plate exposure on one hand and cares for proofing, the press color setting of the Heidelberg presses and the plate exposure with identical dates on the other.

The Krupp decision for Krause was influenced by the longstanding successful relationship between the companies and Krupp’s view of the company. Krause has been viewed as a frontrunner in developing and implementing innovative CTP technologies with their customers for years. Despite some delays on the building construction side, the LaserStar LS 110 Violet Autoloader went live after five days of installation and outputs 35 plates per hour from the beginning.
