Seybold San
Francisco turning up the heat on cold economy
by Lisa Larson
Prepress Editor
This year’s incarnation of Key3 Media Group’s
Seybold San Francisco held at Moscone Center Sept. 24-28 urges publishers to “Speak
louder than words: Create, manage and deliver content with impact.”
Acknowledging the current economic downturn,
Seybold Seminars completely restructured the annual West Coast event to help
attendees “gain the skills, tools and knowledge you need to succeed and grow
professionally, regardless of the Nasdaq’s daily dance.”
Keynote speakers will include Mark Anderson,
founder of Technology Alliance Partners and Strategic News Service, on Monday,
Sept. 24; Bruce Chizen, president and chief executive officer of Adobe systems
Inc., on Tuesday, Sept. 25; and Dick Brass, vice president of technology
development at Microsoft Corp., on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
In addition to the keynotes and the resources
offered by some 350 vendors on the exposition floor, which will include a new
broadband digital media zone (don’t forget to stop by the Seybold Publications
booth to pick up a Hot Picks locator map), there are new educational offerings,
including the Seybold Summit, the Cross-Media Publishing Conference, four new
Hot Technology Days and 18 new tutorials.
Conferences
The heart of Seybold San Francisco 2001 is the
Seybold Summit — a full day of sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 26, focused on
emerging technologies and trends in publishing. The sessions will include the
Seybold Summit keynote address and three interactive sessions — Key Emerging
Technologies, Business Models for Tomorrow’s Media Company and The Cross-Media
Future.
The new Seybold Cross-Media Publishing Conference
on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 24-25, is designed to focus on the day-to-day
realities of publishing in a cross-media world and on the complex future of
publishing to multiple media. The conference features two tracks — the tools
and technologies track, and the business and implementation track.
Following the keynote speech and opening session,
participants on either track will attend six sessions throughout the day focused
on their chosen track, followed by a closing session.
The Best Practices for Web Publishing Conference,
held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27-28, offers three tracks — the design track,
the developer track and the corporate track — each consisting of seven
sessions.
The design track brings together graphic
designers, user interface experts and other Web professionals to share
techniques for building usable, visually appealing Web sites. The developer
track shows developers, producers and other technical professionals how to apply
successful Web development and management techniques to their own operations.
The corporate track focuses on methods for using the Web to achieve strategic
business and knowledge management goals with customers, colleagues and partners.
The Best Practices for Print Publishing
Conference, also held Thursday and Friday, Sept. 27-28, offers two tracks —
the processes track and the return on investment track — both with seven
sessions, covering topics from PDF workflows, asset management and color
reproduction to do-it-yourself workflows and quality on a budget.
