PREPRESS

Michael Ferrara was appointed as the new president and chief operating officer of X-Rite Inc. Rich Cook, former president of X-Rite, retains his position as chief executive officer. Ferrara will oversee the company’s day-to-day operations, maintaining a focus on sales growth, profitability, market expansion and customer service.

Kirk Brauch was named director of technology for myfujifilm.com, a service of Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd. He is responsible for providing all technical and operational aspects of the service in North America. He will also create a 24-hour help desk for myfujifilm.com users, producing ongoing feature enhancements and forecasting where technology will lead the company in the future.

Baseview Products recently announced several new employees. Steve Sulouff is the new technical sales director for JazShak products. David Quinn became the company’s new controller and Ed Ernest is Baseview’s new Webmaster. Charlie Passut, a longtime Baseview trainer, has become the company’s multimedia developer.

 

Mactive Inc. recently announced several new hires. Jewel Fox joined the company in June as an implementation specialist. Monte Shambaugh was also named as an implementation specialist in July, as was Rudy Sierra. Jud Edwards joined Mactive as a sales manager, and will be concentrating on sales in the Midwest.

 

William Solimeno, net-linx president, and Dennis Doolittle, chief operating officer, both resigned their positions at net-linx Publishing Solutions for personal reasons. Solimeno and Doolittle steered the company through the first year of combined Sii, Ctext and CompuText operations. Net-linx AG board member Paul Donlan will now be working with the existing net-linx management team.

 

Graphic Enterprises Inc. named Les Beyeler as interim president and chief executive officer. Beyeler replaces Richard Jusseaume, who retired on May 22. Jusseaume will continue to serve as GEI’s chairman of the board.

 

Mark Sullivan, director of business development for CreoScitex, announced his retirement in July. Sullivan has been affiliated with the printing industry for 33 years, the last 10 with Scitex and CreoScitex.

 

PRESS

Vijay Tharani has been named vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Baldwin Technology Co. Inc. He comes to Baldwin from Weigh-Tronix L.L.C., a privately held manufacturer of industrial weighing systems, where he served as vice president and chief financial officer.

 

POSTPRESS

MAN Roland Inc. appointed Matt Simons national finishing manager. He is responsible for all finishing equipment operations in the United States, as well as sales and customer education on MAN Roland’s lines of postpress equipment. Simons comes to MAN Roland after 17 years with Heidelberg, where he most recently held the position of postpress sales manager in Dallas.

 

Quipp Inc. announced that Anthony Peri is resigning from his position as president, chief executive officer and director of the company to pursue other business opportunities. Ralph Branca was named as the interim chief executive officer and president.

Louis Kipp is now the interim president of Quipp’s operating subsidiary, Quipp Systems Inc.

 

INDUSTRY

The New York Times Co. named Leonard Forman to succeed John O’Brien as senior vice president of the company upon O’Brien’s retirement at the end of the year. O’Brien has held several positions with The New York Times Co. since 1996, including, most recently, chief financial officer. He also held positions as senior vice-president of corporate development, new ventures and electronic businesses, and president and chief executive officer of The New York Times Co. Magazine Group.

Gerald Boyd has been named managing editor of The New York Times, effective in September. Boyd has been a deputy manger of the newspaper for the last four years. He succeeds Bill Keller, who will become an Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times Magazine and other areas of the paper in the fall.

 

Martin Baron, previously the executive editor of The Miami Herald, was recently named editor of The Boston Globe. Baron replaces Matthew Storin, who retired at the end of July. Baron served as executive editor of The Miami Herald since 1999.

 

The Los Angeles Times named John Montorio as deputy managing editor for features. Montorio was previously associate managing editor at The New York Times.

Marc Duvoisin was named assistant managing editor of The Times. He will oversee the editing of Column One and Sunday Report, along with major enterprise and special projects throughout all departments of the newspaper.s

 

John Dotson Jr. was recently elected as a director of The Washington Post Co. Dotson is the former president and publisher of the Akron Beacon Journal and a former senior editor and news editor of Newsweek. Dotson has worked at the Daily Camera in Boulder, Colo., and Philadelphia Newspapers, publishers of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News.

 

NEW MEDIA

Phillip Crawley, publisher and chief executive officer of The Globe and Mail, was named a director of Megawheels Inc. Megawheels is a global applications provider to the automotive newspaper advertising and retail sectors. In conjunction with his appointment, Megawheels announced a series of Webcasts to be held in the upcoming months that will focus on convergence issues and opportunities in the automotive retail sector.

 

Tribune Interactive Inc. named online advertising executive Joseph Gallagher as director of sales for the company’s eastern region. Gallagher is responsible for managing all inside and outside sales activities. He and his staff will leverage Tribune Co.’s national scale and local news brands to bring dynamic online solutions to marketers in northeastern and eastern states including, Maine, Virginia, New York and Ohio.

 

Clickshare Service Corp., Internet transaction infrastructure for privacy-protected purchasing of content for newspapers and other organizations, named former eZiba and Lycos executive Jeffrey Vander Clute to the newly created position of chief operating officer and announced two other appointments.

Richard Lerner was promoted to the chief technology officer and Luis O’Shea was promoted to vice president of software development.
